NSW Conducts Compliance Checks on Gaming Machine Operators

This week Australian NSW state gaming regulator Liquor & Gaming New South Wales announced that it has carried out a series of compliance checks for gaming machine operators across the state, showing that 93% of operators are complying with new rules.

The state's inspectors visited 528 locations in July and August to ensure that the spots were complying with requirements that were in place but weren't being enforced until September 1st. These visits showed that the overwhelming majority of operators were in compliance.

The main rule being investigated was the location of ATM signage requirements, which prohibits signage for gaming machines near an ATM. Other requirements include conducting monthly reviews of any player incidents and having responsible gaming officers if the operation has more than 20 machines.

Regarding the inspections, Liquor & Gaming NSW Executive Director of Regulatory Operations Jane Lin said: "Inspectors are focusing on gaming plans of management to ensure they have the required content included, as well as testing that the policies and procedures in the plan are being adhered to.

"It's important that venues not only have a plan prepared, but ensure their staff are aware of the contents and are checking to make sure it is being complied with.

"The new requirements are part of the government's commitment to deliver an evidence-based reform that reduces gambling harm, stops money laundering, and supports local communities and jobs."
