Norway's Høyre Party Vows to Liberalise Gamblign Market

Norway's Høyre party has announced that they're going to end the country's gaming monopoly if they're elected into power during the 2025 General Election.

The party was formerly in favor of maintaining the gaming monopoly that includes Norsk Risktoto and Norsk Tipping. Things have changed, though, as other countries in the region are leaving behind gambling monopolies in favor of liberalising the market by allowing independent companies to provide services. Høyre says that they're looking at neighboring countries like Sweden and Finland as models to liberalisation.

Høyre currently sits as the second-largest party in Norway and last held power between 2013 and 2021. The party is looking to return to power in the next election cycle, and moves like this are part of the group's strategy to bolster support.

Norway has been working to crack down on the promotion of gambling, including stopping streamers from playing games online through platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and Kick. An open market would likely see some expansion on the promotion of gambling, but also stricter enforcement of regulations.
