Dutch Politicians Want Holland Casino Sold

The Netherlands' Christian Democratic Appeal announced that it is calling for the country to sell off its gambling monopoly Holland Casino, noting that the company isn't competitive with other betting operators.

The casino brand runs fourteen land venues throughout the Netherlands and also runs an online gaming site. The company has been feeling pressure from other online gaming operators though, and tighter tax rules and other enforcement has also hampered the company. In the first half of the year, Holland Casino had a loss of €3.5 million, compared to a €17 million profit during the same period last year.

The CDA party is therefore calling for the sale of the company, but it should be noted that the company also wants a complete ban on online betting.

It's not known whether or not there will be any bills introduced to force a sale, and it appears unlikely, as the party holds little sway in either the House of Representatives or Senate.
