Leading American betting group DraftKings announced that it has gone live in Washington DC with its sportsbetting product after being granted approval by the DC city council.
The move comes as the district opened up its sportsbetting industry to more operators after failing with a limited monopoly. The likes of FanDuel, Caesars Sportsbook, and BetMGM have all gone live in recent days.
To help bolster the company's presence in the market, DraftKings also announced that it has signed a sponsorship agreement with MLS team DC United. The operator will get marketing opportunities with the club, including signage at Audi Field, which has a seating capacity of 20,000.
DraftKings North America President Matt Kalish commented, noting: "We would like to thank the DC Council for creating a path to bring DraftKings' top-rated sportsbook to the nation's capital. Together with DC United, we look forward to delivering fans a best-in-class experience through our customer-friendly product."
With the launch, DraftKings is now present in 29 markets in North America, including various states and the Canadian province of Quebec.
