UK PM Comments on Gambling Scandal

Yesterday we reported on how one of the security personnel attached to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was arrested for placing a wager on the date of the upcoming July elections. Today, Sunak has spoken out on the scandal and expressed his displeasure.

Rishi commented on the matter during a televised debate, in which he said: "I was incredibly angry to learn of these allegations. It's a really serious matter. It's right that they're being investigated properly."

In addition to the security officer, there have been other Conservative Party members who have been found to have illegally bet on the date of the elections. Sunak said that those who partook in the wagering should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and to be expelled from the party.

The UK Gambling Commission is working on combing through bookmaker data to find anyone else who may have placed illegal bets. The regulator is working with the Metropolitan Police to further investigate the case.
