Seventeen People Indicted in New York Illegal Gambling Ring

The Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Richmond has received an 84-count indictment against 17 people that are accused of running a criminal enterprise that included illegal gambling.

An illegal ring was being undertaken by members of the Gambino crime family, which is one of the main traditional mafia families that operate in the country. A number of the defendants are accused of operating an illegal gambling ring between September 2022 and March 2023. John J LaForte, Anthony J Cinque Jr, Edward LaForte, and John Matera stand charged of running the ring, which used an illegal site dubbed Ubet1288. That site has 70 gamblers and processed over $22.7 million in handle.

In addition to running the site, the group is alleged to have illegally promoted illegal gambling. Ten of those indicted are accused of being sheetholders, which would manage bets and collections of players.

The case will be ongoing for some time, as the indicted will have to get their days in court. We'll be following this story and updating readers as more details in the case are revealed.
