Meridianbet Gets South African Licence

Gaming operator Meridianbet announced this week that it has been issued a licence to operate a sportsbook by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, which will see it launch operations in South Africa.

The licencing grants Meridianbet, part of the Golden Matrix Group, the ability to offer in-play wagers for bets in the country, as well as the ability to licence out its software suite to other operators in the country. Notably, the agreement comes as the COSAFA Cup 2024 is getting ready to kick off next week, positioning the company in a spot where they can begin taking wagers on the contest.

Regarding the licencing, Meridianbet CEO Zoran Milosevic said: "We are thrilled to enter the South African market, and this new licence presents a significant opportunity for us to continue to scale our operations.

"Expanding our reach into South Africa will provide new opportunities to grow our user base in an entirely new jurisdiction, underscoring our ongoing commitment to growing our industry-leading brands around the world."

No word on the launch date for the product was available at press time, but we'll be keeping our ear to the ground and letting readers know when the site goes live.
