Melbourne Issues $370K AUD Fine to Tabcorp

This week Australian gaming company Tabcorp was ordered to pay a $370,417 AUD fine by the Melbourne Magistrate's Court after the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission issued charges against the company related to gambling infractions.

In all, there were 43 charges leveled against the company in May of last year. The case stemmed around an underage girl who went to multiple Tabcorp properties across the state, including: Albion Charles Hotel, Brunswick Club, Coburg TAB Agency, Cramers Hotel, Doncaster Hotel, Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Edwardes Lake Hotel, Excelsior Hotel, Northcote TAB Agency, Olympic Hotel, Parkview Hotel, Preston Hotel, and Rose Shamrock & Thistle Hotel.

Tabcorp admitted to the charges of allowing underage gambling and inadequate supervision of betting terminals.

"The breaches committed by Tabcorp are incredibly serious, reflecting a fundamental failure to protect minors from the risks associated with gambling, as well as a lack of vigilance on their part," said VGCCC CEO Annette Kimmitt AM. "These failures undermine the integrity and safety of the industry."

"It is their duty to rigorously check IDs and supervise gambling activities to ensure minors are not able to access these services. Their vigilance is crucial in safeguarding young people from the harms of gambling."

As of press time we haven't head from Tabcorp regarding the case, but will update readers as appropriate.
