Paddy Power Yanks Boris Johnson Ad

Gaming operator Paddy Power announced today that it was pulling an ad campaign that featured former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson after employees objected to the idea.

The ad campaign would have been active for the Euro 2024 football tournament and have seen Johnson wearing an English team jersey and quipping: "I told you I would get us back in Europe. Johnson famously lobbied for UK voters to leave the European Union, a move that ultimately succeeded in a vote.

The campaign spawned rebuke from Paddy Power employees, who voiced concerns about airing the controversial Johnson in an advertisement. This led to the company listening to the employees and ultimately cutting the campaign before it aired.

Paddy Power commented, noting the campaign's cancellation but also said that they're hopeful that other advertising options with the politician will be possible in the future.
