Missouri Sportsbetting Petition Gets 325,000 Signatures

A petition drive to get sportsbetting legalization and regulation onto the Missouri General Election ballot has gotten more than 325,000 signatures, meaning that the issue will meet the required threshold to do just that.

The state currently has a minimum 180,000 signature threshold to get an issue onto the ballot, and this threshold was easily met. Professional sports teams in the state have supported the measure, with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, and St. Louis Blues all were behind pushing the measure under a grassroots group called Winning for Missouri Education. Additionally, the cities of St. Louis and Kansas City also supported the petition drive.

A ballot initiative was necessitated, as there were five years that sportsbetting legislation failed to get through the Missouri Legislature, having failed in one branch or the other.

Regarding the measure, Winning for Missouri Education spokesperson Jack Cardetti said: "The tremendous support we've seen throughout the state is a testament to Missourians' readiness to bring sports betting revenue home and support our local schools, students, and teachers in the process. As the campaign approaches our goal of putting this on the November ballot, Missouri is a step closer to allowing Missouri adults to bet on sports while generating tens of millions in annual funding for our classrooms."

The issue will now head to the General Election ballot in November, where voters will have their say. Casino Listings News will be informing readers as the story develops.
