Fanatics Finalizes US Acquisition of PointsBet Business

Last week Fanatics Betting and Gaming wrapped up its acquisition of the American-facing business of PointsBet by absorbing and launching their brand in the state of Illinois.

The launch will bring all of PointsBet's American sportsbooks under the Fanatics brand, which is popular in the States as a sports apparel company. Fanatics agreed to purchase the business for $225 million and has been slowly been working their way through absorbing the brand as regulators approve the company for gaming licenses.

Regarding the finalization of the purchase, Fanatics Betting and Gaming CEO Matt King said: "The acquisition of the US businesses of PointsBet has supercharged our expansion plans. In addition to our migration of PointsBet customers and technology to the Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino platform, we have also added an incredibly talented team of passionate leaders from the ranks of PointsBet USA that have already made an impact on our business."

In addition to the PointsBet business, Fanatics has been applying for gaming licenses in additional states. In March, it acquired an Arizona license.

When it obtains full regulatory approvals within the month, Fanatics will be live in the markets of Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The funny thing about this is that Fanatics is reviled here in the States. They've taken over supplying most baseball uniforms and the results are horrendous. Everyone hates them and I can't foresee their brand having much value, especially when compared to DraftKings or FanDuel.
