UK betting group Betfred has announced that they've struck a deal to continue sponsoring the Epsom Derby for one additional year.
The company came to a three-year agreement with Jockey Club Racecourses (the company behind Epsom Racecourse) to sponsor the event in 2023. The first year was a success, which saw the two groups agreeing to extend the relationship through 2026. Betfred will also support six races during the event, which is higher than the two that were covered in the existing agreement.
Naming rights are the biggest perk for Betfred, who'll get a lot of visibility at the races.
The Epsom Derby has been held since 1780 and sees three-year-old horses competing on the 1.5-mile track. The purse for 2022's event was £1.6 million.
Betfred's Fred Done commented, noting: "Following on from a memorable two days at Epsom last year we are delighted to further develop our support of the Betfred Derby Festival. We very much look forward to working with the team to keep the fixture at the forefront of world racing."
Jockey Club Racecourses Managing Director Amy Starkey added: "Our relationship with Betfred spans many years and many major races. We are delighted to be strengthening our partnership at Epsom Downs still further.
"Betfred's support of British racing over many years is clear for all to see. We can't wait to get cracking with Fred and his team as we look to promote the greatest flat race in the world in 2024 and beyond."
