Finnish gaming monopoly Veikkaus announced this week that it is partnering with gaming platform OpenBet in order to integrate its fixed-odds betting system with the group moving forward.
Finland's gaming industry is in a stage of transition, as the country is ending Veikkaus' gaming monopoly in 2026, with some changes coming next year. Instead, Finland will see various other brands going live. This agreement will see changes coming to point of sales systems used by Veikkaus as well as the company's website by the end of next year. It will primarily affect the Live Bet and Pitkäveto offerings by the group.
The process of partnering OpenBet with Veikkaus came as a result of public bidding.
Regarding the partnership, Veikkaus VP of Betting Operations Juha-Matti Mäkilä said, "We want to continue to be the number one choice for Finnish betting. With our new partner, we can offer our customers the best possible customer experience in the future and include all the best features of the international betting market in Veikkaus betting.
"The reforms will help us diversify and adapt our offering to suit Finnish players as well as possible."
Recently, Veikkaus said that the end of the monopoly will result in the company laying off about a quarter of its workforce, resulting in an estimated 185 to 215 people losing their positions.
