The Green Turtle restaurant in Towson, Maryland has been granted a gaming license for its Green Turtle Betparx sportsbook inside the restaurant by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission, making the location the 13th physical sportsbook in the state.
The full licensing comes after the book was able to conduct live demonstrations on September 25th and 27th, showing that employees were knowledgeable and compliant with the procedures required by the state. Players at the sportsbook will be able to place bets while enjoying food and drinks from the Towson location. A identical license was granted for The Green Turtle in Canton, Maryland last month.
Sportsbetting has been legalized in Maryland since last year, with online betting and retail sportsbetting available. There are 13 retail and 12 mobile sportsbooks available for players to choose from.
In August, the state's sportsbetting handle was $263.7 million, with mobile books generating $250.3 million of that total. Retail books generated $13.3 million in bets. In total, there was $2.6 million in taxes paid to the state, which goes toward education projects.
