888 Gets New CEO

Online betting group 888 has announced that they've got a new CEO, as Per Winderstrom has taken the reigns of the company, replacing Lord Mendelsohn in the role.

888 had previously removed Itai Pazner from the job in January, with Mendelsohn taking the job temporarily until a replacement could be found. Widerstrom had previously served as Fortuna Entertainment Group's CEO for eight years before pulling back in 2022. He has previously worked at other betting operators such as Gala Coral Interactive and Bwin.party.

The current year has been chaotic for 888, as the company removed Pazner and was also almost purchased by FS Gaming. Ultimately, 888 declined the takeover, stating that a merger could have negatively impacted the company's UK gaming licences. 888 is also struggling a bit fiscally, as third-quarter revenues are expected to drop by about 10% due to regulatory changes in the UK, customer friendly sports getting underway, and compliance changes.

In a statement on the professional networking platform LinkedIn, Widerstrom said, "Today, a thrilling new chapter unfolds for me as I am relocating to London and taking on the role as CEO of 888.

"The honour is immense to lead such an iconic company, synonymous with legendary brands like 888, William Hill, and Mr Green. I am very enthusiastic to have the opportunity to unite with the extraordinary people at 888, ready to navigate the exciting journey ahead of us.

"The road ahead at 888 is charged with excitement and will require my complete dedication. This pivotal moment has led me to step away from my eight NED roles.

"I extend a massive thanks to the incredible individuals I have collaborated with over the years at Nordnet, Turbotic, Sambla Group, Qred, Bokadirekt, Casumo, Bilthouse, and Catena Media. My gratitude also goes to Nordic Capital and Sprints Capital for their unwavering trust and support.

"Here's to keeping the channels of communication open and a fantastic week ahead for everyone."
