Kentucky's retail sportsbetting market opened two weeks ago, and the Bluegrass State's governor Andy Beshear is reporting the first set of numbers for the market.
Retail handle for the market was $4.5 million in the first two weeks, with punters able to place bets at racetracks and casinos around the state. The real moneymaker for the state will be the mobile sportsbetting market, which launches on September 28th. Beshear announced that 60,000 mobile accounts have been pre-registered.
When mobile betting launches, brands like Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, Bet365, BetMGM, and Barstool Sportsbook will be available for customers. The state's bettors will be able to wager on NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, and other sports, with additional sports being suggested to the state's Sports Wagering Advisory Council for approval.
Regarding the market, Governor Beshear said, "This is a strong number that certainly reflects the excitement Kentuckians have for the opening of sports wagering. With college football and the NFL season underway, plus the launch of mobile wagering, we expect that number will grow significantly.
"It has taken many years to get here, but sports wagering is finally a reality in Kentucky. This is a win-win for Kentuckians, who can enjoy a quality entertainment experience and benefit from funds staying right here in our state to help us build a better Kentucky."
Casino Listings News will be updating readers when the mobile goes live.
