Ghana Will Tax Gambling Winnings

This week Ghana's Revenue Authority announced that it will be withholding taxes on gross gaming winnings from punters, taking in 10% on each win generated.

The move will take the place of the 15% VAT tax that was currently in place for every wager placed. The Ghana Revenue Authority has warned gambling operators that they'll face repercussions if they don't comply with taking out the tax for punters. These measures could include having licences revoked or stiff financial penalties.

Gambling is growing in popularity in Ghana, with bet365 notably launching their sportsbook last November. There are a number of sportsbooks in operation in the country, and as more gamblers get access to the internet in the country, it's likely we'll see more books entering the market.
