Betfred Donates £84,000 to Prostate Cancer UK

UK betting group Betfred announced this week that it has donated £84,000 to Prostate Cancer UK after the British Masters golf tournament as part of a charity promotion they ran at the event.

The promotion saw Betfred pledging to donate £50,000 to the charity if any player made a hole-in-one at the fourteenth holder during the European Tour event. This actually took place, as golfer Matthew Baldwin got an Ace. Additionally, the company agreed to donate £500 for every hole that was completed with an Eagle or better (two strokes under par), and another £500 for every drive onto the green during on the tenth hole.

Regarding the donation, Betfred owner Fred Done said, "It's not only what we've raised, it's letting people know they should get checked, bringing awareness of Prostate Cancer. I'm very pleased with that [£84k donation], but promoting it is as important as giving the money."

The British Masters was won by New Zealand golfer Daniel Hillier, who went 10 under par and beat American Gunner Wiebe and Englishman Oliver Wilson by two strokes at the event.

Dang that's a cool promotion and nice hit for the charity. When I used to sell radio ads, I'd build promotions for hole-in-one challenges. We always had the sponsor pay for them, but they actually work as an insurance policy. Basically, you get a quote on how far the hole-in-one challenge is, how many participants you'll have, and such. The price wasn't that insane, but I've never seen one hit before.
