Ukrainian Police Raid Illegal Casino

This week the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine raided an illegal casino and seven other betting groups in Kyiv, resulting in the seizure of cash, computers, and gambling-related material.

Detectives raided eight premises in the region and took into custody UAH 100,000 in cash, 100 computers, poker tables, cards, chips, financial documents, and cash transfer machines. The illegal casino was running in violation of the country's curfew, which runs from midnight to 5 am due to the ongoing war with Russia.

Nobody was arrested at the casinos, but there is a pre-trial investigation ongoing. There were people playing at the casino during the main raid, and its possible that there may be criminal action taken against players as well as the facilities themselves.

The raids were assisted by local police.

Ukraine has blocked several online websites since the 2022 invasion of the country by Russia, alleging that the sites have ties to Russia. The country also shut down two state lotteries in April, although no reason was given.
