Macau's gambling industry surged in May, with revenues coming in at MOP15.57 billion ($1.93 billion USD) during the period, which represents a 365.9% rise.

The number compares with MOP3.34 billion that was generated in May of last year and is 5.8% higher than the MOP14.7 million generated in April. It also marks the highest monthly total for the gambling mecca this year.

Macau had been struggling to grow revenues due to various Covid-19 restrictions, but these are now being pulled back, and now people are returning to the former Portuguese colony to bet.

For the five months this year gambling revenues are MOP64.9 million, up 172.9% when compared to last year.
