Merkur Casino has been fined €45,000 by Dutch gaming regulator Kansspelautoriteit for letting a self-excluded player enter their casino in the town of Almere.
The player was able to access the casino grounds nine times between February 17th and March 2nd, 2022, despite being registered to the Cruks self-exclusion scheme.
The player was checked by casino staff, but was given an error message that didn't allow them to verify if he was registered or not. The error was caught after the player voluntarily contacted the regulator and let them know of the breach.
An investigation led to the fine, which Merkur can opt to appeal.
News of the fine comes on the heels of the Netherlands launching an updated version of the Cruks system, which makes it easier for players to self-exclude.

self-exclude, im certain that still means its for the one person to voluntarily exclude themselves right?
Just so im clear, this is a players tool to use for problem gambling and not a tool for the casino's to use to force players into registering as a problem gambler correct?
They self-exclude, but the rule is that its a system-wide exclusion. That means that if you self-exclude from one casino, you're going to be self-excluded from all casinos in the Netherlands if you use Cruks.
Interesting, thats what I thought. When BET365 tried to force me to self exclude myself for 6 months, they told me it was Casino specific . They said if I didnt self exclude then they would close my account and ban me for life, which they ended up doing in the end. I really hated the fact they were using a tool that is suppose to help people who want help as leverage towards players to make them do something they dont want to do. That was 6 months ago almost and it still disgusts me.
