Las Vegas Visitor Impact Hit $79.3 Billion Last Year

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has announced the release of their yearly Economic Impact of Southern Nevada's Tourism Industry report, which indicated that visitors to Sin City generated $79.34 billion in economic output in 2022, rising 24.7% from the record was set in 2019.

The report showed that visitor spending in the city jumped strongly after the pandemic ended, eclipsing former totals as visitors returned to the casino and entertainment mecca. The tourism industry remained the largest employer for the southern portion of the state, directly employing 229,440 people. If indirect employment is factored, those numbers jump to 358,880. The report was generated by data from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Nevada Department of Employment, Nevada Commission on Tourism, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Clark County School District.

Customer spending in the region hit $44.9 billion, jumping past the pre-pandemic levels by 21.8% and bating out 2021 by 24.4%.

Las Vegas' rebound from the pandemic comes in contrast to that of the largest gambling market in the world, Macau, which has struggled to regain traction after having been shuttered for large swaths of time during the crisis.

"These results are a powerful testament that what we do in concert with our resort partners to market this destination has an undeniable impact on our community," said LVCVA CEO Steve Hill. "We're proud of this city and this industry and know that the upcoming offerings in the destination will add to that success."

LVCVA CMO Kate Wik added: "As we emerged from the pandemic, our consumer research made clear it was the perfect moment for us to capitalize on pent up travel demand. We're thrilled to see not only the strong rebound in visitation, but also the significant impact our visitors have on our state's economy."
