The UKGC posted a tweet last week that featured a child in an image, which led to backlash and saw the company deleting the tweet and issue an apology.
The gambling regulator made the post on December 9th on the UKGC's feed, with the message that punters should only place wagers with UK-licenced operators. The offending tweet had a gif of a child cheering at a sporting event. The UKGC said that the tweet was made to remind players of rules, given an increase in betting during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The UKGC ended up removing the tweet, saying it was made in error. The country's minimum age for gambling is 18, and the Advertising Standards Authority has been strict on operators issuing ads that feature or appeal to children.
In a statement, the UKGC acknowledged the issue, noting: "We realise this was an oversight and undermined an important consumer protection message. We apologise to anyone who may have been offended by unintended association and have now deleted the tweet."

One for the Oof pile... especially when they're the ones responsible for ensuring the gambling companies stay in line.
Haha that's hilarious. They're the ones imposing quite strict rules regarding advertising, not having any childish images but yet they tweet with a child gif.
I mean I guess you can't fine them, as their money comes from taxpayers... but there should be some leniency toward casinos or repercussions for the UKGC if they can't hold the standard. I think leniency, as not everyone needs a stick up their butt all of the time.

Ooooh this is mad! And quite surprising actually! Wowza
