Bally's Casino Chicago Gets Approval

This story was published more than 1 year ago.

The $1.7 billion Bally's Casino in Chicago, Illinois received City Council approval for zoning changes that would allow the proposed casino to operate.

The measure passed with a 39-5 vote, placing the casino in the River West district. It comes less than a week after the Chicago Planning Commission approved of the plans. Bally's also has the approval of mayor Lori Lightfoot, who approved of the plan earlier this year.

The casino would have 170 gaming tables, 3,400 slots, a 20,000 square-foot exhibition space, a 3,000 seat theatre, 500-room hotel, a riverwalk, and a green space.

Bally's now has to await a gaming license for the property from the Illinois Gaming Board. The facility has reasonable odds of getting that license quickly, which would then allow for groundbreaking to commence. If and when that occurs, construction would get underway with a target opening date of sometime in 2026.
