Brentford striker Ivan Toney is being investigated by the Football Association after reports were published that he gambled on football matches in the earlier years of his career.
Toney indicated that he's assisting the FA in their investigation, which has reportedly been ongoing for the past seven months. He is alleged to have placed bets on games while he was working his way up to the high leagues. Toney isn't believed to have ever bet on a match he was involved in or on teams he was involved with. Still, it is a violation of FA rules for football players, coaches, or club staff to bet on football matches anywhere in the world.
In a statement on Twitter Toney wrote: "I'm aware of a story about me in a national newspaper today. I have been assisting the Football Association with their enquiries and will not be making any comment until such investigation has reached its conclusion."
"I am a proud Englishman, and it has always been my childhood dream to play for my country at a World Cup."
Toney is 26 years old and joined Brentford in 2020, where he helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League. He has also spent time with Peterborough, Northampton Town, and Newcastle United.

Wow, that's an unfortunate case. I wonder what suspension and/or fine he'll get.
