Yesterday, Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the largest upsets in World Cup history when they beat hyped Argentina 2-1. Unfortunately, one Australian gambler lost even more, taking a $160,000 AUD loss as he bet on the heavy favorites.
The crazy bet took place at gambling operator TAB, with the gambler putting down the huge bet with odds of only 1.13 to 1. This meant that he stood to only make $20,000 if Argentina won, thus putting the majority of risk on him. Things were looking good for the gambler early on, as Lionel Messi scored at the 10 minute mark, but things changed after halftime. Saleh Al-Shehri scored in the 48th minute, and shortly after Salem Al Dawsari scored from the top of the box to give Saudi Arabia the lead.
Saudi Arabia held on to seal the win, shocking the world and shocking the dumb gambler's wallet in the process.
Thankfully, the bettor's identity is likely to remain anonymous. No word on whether or not he'll be forced to sell a kidney was available at press time.
