The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that they've changed their rules and have banned fighters from betting on fights within the league.
Fighters under the promotion will be forbidden from betting on any UFC match. Fighters won't be able to place bets directly or via a third-party proxy. The move comes as many UFC fights are hosted in Las Vegas, where it's not abnormal for boxers or other athletes to bet on themselves in a fight. The UFC noted that most states forbid fighters from betting on their matches.
The change will also deem that any relatives in the same household, coaches, handlers, trainers, managers, doctors, or any other person that'd be privy to a fighter's information will also not be allowed to place bets.
Fighters that become aware of a violation will have to report the breach to the UFC immediately or face fines or a suspension by the promotion.
