Macau struggled mightily in the month of September, as revenues came in at MOP2.96 billion, down 49.6% when compared to September of 2021.
The numbers were more than what was hauled in during September 2020, when operators generated MOP5.88 billion in revenue. It was also drastically behind the MOP22.1 billion generated in September of 2019.
Revenues did rise 35.3% from August and comes as there has been more easing of restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic. There was an outbreak in the area in July, which saw casinos close for a few weeks, and restrictions remained after the casinos reopened.
Macau has struggled since the Covid-19 pandemic started, as stringent lockdowns have kept Chinese visitors from visiting the former Portuguese colony. Things may be looking up though, as tour groups and other opportunities for tourism will begin to seep into the country.
