Norsk Tipping Stops Sportsbetting Ads on TV

Norwegian gaming operator Norsk Tipping has stopped airing advertisements on television that promote sportsbetting as part of a decision to reduce marketing by the company.

The company has said that they're intending to reduce marketing spend, due largely to unlicensed operators being unable to promote their services in the country. This has directly led to the removal of TV adverts, and will be accompanied by SMS messages also being suspended.

Additionally, Norsk said that they're going to be reducing the visibility of casino games on their site in an effort to push gamblers toward games like lottery draw titles.

Regarding the decision Norsk Tipping Communications Director Tonje Sagstuen said, "Now that the illegal advertising has mostly gone from Norwegian TV screens, we are adapting our visibility to the new situation, as we always do.

"Norsk Tipping will not market more than necessary, but sufficiently so that the players choose the regulated offer. We have long been wary of sports betting advertising on TV. Now we are stopping it completely.

"There is good reason to be happy about the development, especially because the illegal advertising has mainly been for online casinos and sports, i.e., the game categories most associated with gambling problems."
