FanDuel Launches UK Operation

American game operator FanDuel has launched operations in the UK, albeit not in a traditional way that most of us would expect. Instead of a betting site, the company has launched a collaboration hub in the city of Edinburgh.

The hub will offer product development, special projects, and technology services. The office will be able to employ up to 550 people, but at the outset it's expected that 250 jobs will be created. FanDuel was initially founded in 2009 in Edinburgh as a fantasy sports operator. It eventually expanded to sportsbetting and was sold off. It now operates its headquarters out of New York City.

Regarding the launch FanDuel VP of Software Engineering Matthew Taylor said, "We believe a collaborative approach is the best way to drive results and truly innovate when it comes to product delivery.

"The official launch of our new UK Collaboration Hub today signals an exciting new chapter in the FanDuel story that will proactively bring together the best talent from across the country to innovate and excel in this dedicated creative space."

"The continued boom of the UK and Scottish tech sector is undisputed, and we wanted to create a new world-class environment to match our world-class engineering teams. Investing in our people is key and the Collaboration Hub helps us continue to recruit, develop and support our colleagues as we further grow our UK employee base."
