Lincoln City Footballer Suspended For Betting on Matches

This story was published more than 2 years ago.

This week it was revealed that the English Football Association has suspended footballer Chris Maguire after he was found to have bet on 52 matches between 2017 and 2022.

The association said that Maguire, a forward for Lincoln City in League One, bet on the large number of matches in direct contradiction of Rule E8. That rule stipulates that players, coaches, and officials from level 8 and higher in the English Football pyramid cannot bet on any football matches that take place anywhere in the world. Those found to have bet face fines, suspensions, or permanent bans from being able to participate in the sport.

After the decision came down, the 33-year-old forward was suspended by Lincoln City "without prejudice" until further notice.

Maguire has been playing senior football since 2005, and has scored 87 goals in 481 League match appearances. He has played for Lincoln City since 2021, having also played for Sunderland, Derby County, Oxford United, and numerous other clubs.
