Kenyan Betting Shops Closed for Election Day

Gaming operators in Kenya temporarily suspended services for August 9th after a government directive ordered them to do so in order to let Kenyan citizens cast votes for the 2022 general election.

The edict runs from midnight to 5pm on August 9th and was handed down by Kenya's Betting Control and Licensing Board.

Different operators in the country filed notices with players that informed them of the temporary closures and the reason why.

Betting brand SportPesa was one such company that posted a notice, which read: "Thank you for interacting with SportPesa. Our services are currently unavailable in compliance with BCLC's directive to suspend all gaming operations to enable you to vote."

"Our services will resume immediately after 5pm on Tuesday 9th August 2022."

This is interesting. They don't look like they have compulsory voting, so making betting shops close for the day is certainly interesting.
