Colombia's gaming regulator Coljuegos has revealed that during the first half of 2022 it has blocked 1,577 online gaming sites that are offering services without a national gambling license.

Blocks are initiated by Coljuegos and referred to the country's ISPs, who then prevent customers from being able to view the illicit sites.

The regulator also revealed that it had conducted legal enforcement action against land-based gambling locations, seizing 1,441 pieces of equipment.

Additionally, Coljuegos said that it had collected COP359.7 million in tax revenues, which is up 22.1% from last year. Most of the funds go to the country's social security system, while some goes into the national pension fund, to the Ministry of Science and Technology, and to local health programs. Land-based betting accounted for 42% of tax revenues, generated, while online gambling made up 32%. The Super Astro Lottery generated 16% of tax payments, while the Balota Revancha Lottery accounted for 8% of tax revenues.

Regarding the developments Coljuegos President Cesar Augusto Valencia Galiano said, "The gambling industry continues to go through a historic moment in our country. Within the framework of economic reactivation and sustainability, Coljuegos promoted an action plan using the commitment and creativity of collaborators, unions, businessmen and operators.

"Based on the processes of innovation and digitisation, we managed to open new markets and new scenarios that have generated optimal conditions to report record figures like the ones we are mentioning today."
