This week the Mississippi Gaming Control Board revealed that the state's sportsbetting handle dropped 19% in May to $29.2 million.
Those numbers are also down 16% from the $35.5 million bet in April. Revenues were also down 4% to $4 million, beating April's total by $200,000. The state's coastal casinos had $18.9 million in wagers and $2.4 million in revenue. Central state casinos had revenues of $945,559 on wagers of $5.7 million. Casinos in the northern part of the state had handle of $4.5 million and revenues of $613,628.
Basketball was the most bet on sport, with $9.6 million in bets. Baseball was next with $8.6 million. Casinos saw their win margins at 13.7%.
Mississippi currently has 26 casinos that allow for sportsbetting. The state currently doesn't have regulated online sportsbetting, which is likely hurting the state's bottom line, especially when it compares to other states that offer the option. Legislators in the state have pushed for mobile sportsbetting bills, but the most recent attempt died in Committee in the House on February 1st.
