53rd World Series of Poker Gets Underway

The 53rd edition of the World Series of Poker has gotten underway in Las Vegas, with events running from May 31st to July 20th.

This year's edition marks the first time that the event will be headlined on the Las Vegas Strip, as there will be events at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Bally's, and the upcoming Horseshoe Casino. Previously the events were helpt at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, which is locate to the west of the Strip.

In all, there will be 88 WSOP gold bracelets doled out during the tournaments, and there will be online gold bracelets up for grabs from the WSOP website.

"After 52 years the WSOP is finally a headliner on the Las Vegas Strip," said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. "It's only fitting our new home will soon be known as the Horseshoe, a legendary brand inextricably linked to the WSOP.

"We're ready to usher in a new era for the WSOP with the tournament officially underway. From unforgettable game-winning hands to the heartbreaking upsets, this will be a historic tournament on the iconic Las Vegas Strip."
