Las Vegas Visitors Spike Up in May

This story was published more than 1 year ago.

Visitors hitting Sin City climbed in March, as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority shared that 3.33 million people visited the city, jumping up almost 50% from the same period last year.

The surge in visitors was largely attributed to shows and conventions during the month, as exhibition attendance was 494,200 for the month, up 1500% from last year. Hotel rooms were at an 80.6% occupancy rate, which was up 25% from last year.

The numbers show an increase over even the earlier part of the year, as visitor numbers were weak running into January and February.

These results come as the Nevada Gaming Control Board announced that Nevada gaming revenue exceeded $1 billion in March, coming in at $1.36 billion. That's up 27% from last year and up from $1.1 billion in February. This marks the 13th straight month in which gaming revenues have eclipsed $1 billion in Nevada.
