German Sportsbetting Licensees Sue Government

This story was published more than 1 year ago.

33 sportsbetting licensees in Germany are collectively suing the state of Hesse in regards to restrictions on the market that have been implemented.

The lawsuit was spawned by high tax-rates on revenues, €1,000 deposit limits for almost all players, and other rules that the companies claim push punters toward unlicensed operators. Online betting was formally legalized last year, with similar restrictions on casino gaming, which has seen no licenses being granted by regulators.

The lawsuit will see the Regional Council of Darmstadt will be representing the state of Hesse in court, and will be stating the case for the government with restrictions remaining in place.

This drama will unfold over the course of several months, and we'll be updating readers as developments arise.
