Mexican gaming operator Caliente Interactive has been granted an online sportsbetting license by the Illinois Gaming Board, and will be able to provide online sportsbetting services within the Land of Lincoln as a result.
The state is allowing three online sportsbetting licenses to operators, with the provision that the licenses would go to operators that don't currently have a permanent license in the state. There were other applicants, with one operator pulling its application, one submitting an application late, Caliente, and Fubo Gaming. Upon a review process by the IGB, it was determined that Fubo doesn't meet the requirements put forth by the state, making Caliente the only operator of the group to get a license.
When Caliente decides to launch their book, they'll be the first Mexican operator to go live in the United States. As of press time we don't have a date for when the product will go live, but we figure that it will happen in the near future, as online launches don't take as much time to go live as a retail betting product.
