Two St. Croix Sportsbook Launch in Wisconsin

Last week two retail sportsbooks launched in Wisconsin after the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe launched the facilities at the Turtle Lake and Danbury casinos in the state.

The opening comes as the tribe signed a gambling compact with Governor Tony Evers that gives them the ability to offer the wagers. That compact took a lot of time to navigate, and required lawmakers to authorize the offering of sportsbetting on tribal lands as well as working with federal regulators.

The sportsbook at the St. Croix Casino in Danbury has seven TVs, a bar, a lounge, and four kiosks where players can place their bets and is dubbed "The Red Zone". It reportedly cost the tribe $80,000 to construct. The Turtle Lake sportsbook is similar in size and scope.

"It means a lot to us, not just economically for the tribe itself, but it also helps our tourism in our counties that our casinos reside in," said St. Croix Tribal Chairman William Reynolds. "We're still working on our construction. We're working on our policies and procedures, fine-tuning them to get ready to go."

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers also commented, adding: "I'm grateful for Chairman Reynolds and the St. Croix Chippewa Tribal Council for their efforts to negotiate this compact. Event wagering will bring new opportunities for employment and revenue growth to the Tribe and provide a welcome boost to our recovering tourism and entertainment industries."
