Hard Rock Bristol Will Be Virginia's First Land Casino

This week it was announced that Hard Rock Bristol will be getting the rights to launch Virginia's first casino after the company was granted approval by the Virginia Lottery Board.

There will be a temporary venue that opens in July, which will feature 30,000 square-feet of gaming space. Inside that space will be 20 gaming tables and 900 slot machines, in addition to other games. The VLB also stated that they're going to be continuing to review proposals for locations in Portsmouth, Danville, and Norfolk, and will issue licenses as appropriate.

Gamblers approved of land casinos in the state via a ballot referendum in 2020.

Regarding the decision VLB Chair Ferhan Hamid said, "Since enacted by the 2020 general assembly, the board's priority for casino gaming in the Commonwealth is that it be conducted with integrity and in a responsible manner. Today's approval reflects the confidence we have in the rigorous and conscientious review conducted by Virginia Lottery staff."
