Downtown Detroit's Greektown Casino-Hotel is getting a new name and $30 million renovation that will bring it in line with owner Penn National Gaming's national branding, the company announced this week.
The casino will be named Hollywood Casino at Greektown effective May 1st. The name change will bring it in line with the various other Hollywood Casino locations that the company operates, including Hollywood Casino Toledo, Hollywood Casino & Hotel Joliet, and Hollywood Casino Columbus. The name change is subject to regulatory approvals, but that process is expected to be quick.
Regarding the change Greektown Casino General Manager John Drake said, "Becoming Hollywood Casino at Greektown will offer our guests the best of both worlds. We're keeping all of the unique, neighborhood charm that has defined Greektown since we opened our doors, while adding several new amenities that come with being a part of Penn National's flagship brand family."
In addition to the name change, there'll be a $30 million renovation at the casino and hotel, upgrading the lobby, signage, carpet, and adding restaurants like Detroit Taco Company, Rock Bar, and Urban Cocktail to the existing lineup.
Greektown Casino opened in 2000 alongside the MotorCity Casino and MGM Grand Detroit, both of which regularly outperform the Penn National-owned property.
