This week Lithuania's Ministry of Finance announced that its Gambling Supervisory Authority has fined operators Lošimų Strateginė Grupė and UAB Olympic Casino Group Baltija €25,000 each for advertising poker tournament details.
Lithuania has strict anti-gambling advertising laws in the country, and the two groups were found to be promoting poker tournament details for the Fisherman's Challenge tournament in the country. While the tournaments themselves weren't illegal, the country's gaming regulations forbid promoting gambling in any form, particularly Article 18 (1) of the ALI and Article 201 (1).
Regarding the violations the regulator wrote: "Such information is considered to be information that encourages participation in gambling, therefore the company has violated the requirements of Article 10 (19) of the ALI."
It should be noted that the fines can be appealed, although neither operator has voiced what their plans are.
