Colorado Blocks Betting on Russian, Belarus Events

This story was published more than 1 year ago.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused an international backlash, with a number of sanctions being imposed on the country. Now, the state of Colorado is getting in on the action, banning betting on events that are held in Russia or Belarus, or involving athletes from those countries.

The ban was announced by the Colorado Divison of Gaming on Saturday and is effective immediately. The move will affect events from the likes of the Russian Football Union, Russian Ice Hockey Union, and Belarusian Ice Hockey Union.

Operators like FanDuel and DraftKings have already taken steps to not offer action on any Russian events, while Caesars has indicated that they're not taking bets on Russian hockey, soccer, volleyball, or table tennis events.

No timeframe for how long these bans will last was given.
