Casino groups Betsson and LeoVegas are taking the steps of pulling out of the Dutch online gaming market in an effort to avoid any sanctions after the country's regulated market launched today.
The decision is being made with the goal of being able to eventually obtain a license in the country. Thus far the country's gaming regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has only approved of ten gaming licenses for operators, meaning that the market isn't as open as nearby countries like Sweden or the UK.
The KSA has also vowed to crack down on operators that are in the country illegally, and have noted that financial penalties, as well as an inability to obtain a license, may be in store for those who violate the law.
Commenting on the decision Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall said, "Compliance with laws, rules and ethical standards in the countries in which we operate is a foundation for Betsson. We have a strong belief in the Dutch market, and we have a clear ambition to operate under the new Dutch regulatory framework in the future, making us able to yet again offer Dutch customers an outstanding and sustainable customer experience."

Crazy to see so many big names pulling out, but I get it. I'd have thought the KSA would have approved of more operators before launch though, too.
I agree slim, I think that only more and more names will leave the Dutch market and just a few will be left.
