A report this week from The State House News Service revealed that the Encore Boston Harbor Casino will not be bringing back in-person poker services for quite some time, if they decide to bring the service back at all.
The casino has decided that poker revenues aren't as profitable as other casino games like slots and table games, so the poker room will remain closed. If the activity does return, the poker room will be at a reduced capacity. Without a doubt, the casino is eyeing what they can do with the space, and it's possible that there could be a sportsbook built if Massachusetts legalizes sportsbetting.
A statement from Encore said in part: "Based on current market conditions and the resulting need to prioritize space, Encore Boston Harbor will not be bringing back live poker at this time. If and when poker should return to Encore, it will likely be at a reduced capacity."
