American betting group BetMGM announced today that they've added hockey legend Wayne Gretzky as a brand ambassador as they begin looking at entering the Canadian sportsbetting market.
The deal will see Gretzky serving as a spokesman for the BetMGM brand, appearing in marketing channels like online ads and possibly television spots. The brand has signed numerous athletes and celebrities into sponsorship roles, including actor Jamie Foxx, who's appeared on numerous spots.
Gretzky, who hails from Ontario came to fame as a hockey phenom for the Edmonton Oilers, where he won four Stanley Cups. He was eventually part of a blockbuster trade to the Los Angeles Kings, where he helped the city come to accept the sport. He is currently the all-time leader in goals (894), assists (1,962), and points (2,856) in 1,485 games played.
Commenting on the new partnership BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost said, "Wayne is an exceptional talent who transcends the sports world and we're proud to welcome him to the BetMGM team. As we look toward potential expansion into Canada, and elsewhere throughout the United States, Wayne will bring a unique ability to tell our brand story."

Gretzky is a hockey icon. If BetMGM wants that credibility in Canada, I think Gretzky will add that little bit of extra oomph to make them look like a premiere brand.

Yeah I think you're right Dustin, they should gain advantage being able to work with the most recognizable hockey face of all time IMO, especially when it's about Canada.. where ice hockey is no doubt N1.
