Sisal Attempting to Replace Camelot in UK

This story was published more than 3 years ago.

Italian lottery group Sisal is reportedly aiming to take over the UK National Lottery's operation, aiming to take it over from Camelot.

The company is reportedly looking at putting together a package to offer to the UK National Lottery that will be too good to turn down. The package deal will receive backing from Sisal parent company CVC Capital, who purchased the group for €1 billion a few years back.

Camelot has been running the UK National Lottery since 1994 and it is currently owned by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. Camelot's contract runs through 2023 and the UK Gambling Commission is currently debating whether to give Camelot a 10-year extension or to open up the bidding process to other operators.

Right now there aren't any details on what a package from Sisal would look like. We'll be following this story with our ears to the ground and will update readers as we learn more.
