Ukraine Issues First Online License

This story was published more than 3 years ago.

This week the Ukraine Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries announced that they've awarded its first online gaming license to the operator Spacex, allowing the company to offer services to punters in the country.

Spacex operates the Kosmolot brand that was once overseen by the Ukranian National Lottery, but has been halted in operation since 2019. The company will be the first available to offer services under the new 2020 Gambling Act, and will be able to offer games like slots and table games. In order to officially take hold of the license, Spacex will have to front up the UAH30.7 million fee. The certification will last for five years.

In a statement the UCRGL said, "Yesterday at the KRAIL meeting the application of Spacex LLC to obtain a license to organise and conduct gambling casinos on the Internet was considered. After reviewing the documents, the application was approved."

No timetable for the launch of the site was available as of press time.

It seems that many markets that were "grey" markets are now becoming licensed ones making it more costly for casinos to offer their product there. Certainly seems like a big trend and I believe even more countries will have licenses.
