Sheldon Adelson Taking Medical Leave of Absence

This story was published more than 2 years ago.

Sheldon Adelson, the CEO of Las Vegas Sands and anti-online gambling activist is taking a leave of absence from his company as he fights non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Adelson is 87 years old and has an estimated net worth of $35.8 billion. He founded Las Vegas Sands in 1988 and expanded the operation to become a Sin City behemoth. The group eventually demolished the Sands Casino and replaced it with the upscale Venetian, which has become one of the city's most famous casino resorts.

While Adelson is off, Las Vegas Sands COO Robert G. Goldstein will fill his role.

Although we're critical of Adelson's views and hypocrisy when it comes to online betting, we do wish him well in his battle with cancer.
