IGT Gets Crypto Support Patent for Cashless Games

This story was published more than 3 years ago.

Land betting machine developer International Game Technology has announced that they've been granted a patent that would add support for cryptocurrencies for cashless game machines.

The patent would allow players to transfer crypto from their wallets to their casino rewards account, where they can then be put into the machines and used as funds to play slots or other games.

This is an attempt to move toward a cashless system while also looking to draw in younger players. Many of the younger generations of players are looking for new ways to play as well as partaking in different kinds of games that are more interactive than a standard slot.

The patent would apply to different cryptocurrencies, with the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum likely to be among the supported currencies.

There are currently no immediate plans to implement the system, and any spot that the option is added would likely be subject to regulatory approval.
